Double glazing & misty units

When a double glazed window turns milky or you see condensation between the two panes, the seal on the unit has failed. You don't need a new window. We measure the unit, have a new one made and fit it into your existing frame.

  • Fits: uPVC, timber and aluminium frames
  • Glass: Low-E, argon filled, warm edge
  • Options: Clear, obscure, toughened, laminated
  • Frame: Kept in place

Signs a unit has failed

  • Condensation or a milky film between the panes that you can't wipe off.
  • Streaks or water marks inside the unit.
  • A draught or a colder feel near one pane compared with others.
  • A crack in either pane.

How a unit replacement works

  1. Measure. We measure the glass and note the thickness and type.
  2. Make. The new unit is made with low-E glass, argon fill and a warm-edge spacer.
  3. Fit. The beads come off, the old unit comes out and the new one goes in. Most units take well under an hour each to fit.

Upgrading while you're at it

A replacement unit is a chance to change the glass. Swap to obscure glass in a bathroom, toughened glass in a door or low-level pane, or laminated glass for extra security. Older units with plain glass can be replaced with modern low-E units that keep more heat in.

Can you just fix the seal on a misty unit?

Not reliably. Once moisture is inside the unit, the lasting fix is to replace the sealed unit itself. The frame stays where it is.

How quickly can a replacement unit be made?

Units are made to measure, so there's a short wait between measuring and fitting. Call us for the current lead time.

Do you replace units in timber and aluminium frames?

Yes, as well as uPVC. Tell us the frame type when you get in touch.
